Travel plan help in Germany
Hi all,
I'm chethan from India and I need your help in this matter.
I'm travelling to Munich (October 15th) on business visit for two weeks till 29th October. I will be having two Sundays and one Saturday for travel around and evenings in weekdays. I am also planning to extend three days till 31st October for my personal trip within Germany. Could you please help me with the plan and must watch places? On 1st November my return flight is from Munich itself.

Some popular day-trips from Munich would be:
Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles (easy to see in one day)

Linderhof

Dachau

For your last couple of nights in Germany, how about renting a car and driving the Romantic Road to Rothenberg

We stayed at the Hotel-Gasthof Goldener Greifen which is right in the town center (and has parking). The rooms are comfortable and they have a restaurant which serves good, local cuisine.

Hi those are excellent suggestions above. Dachau is a must so we all everywhere never forget. Neuschwanstein castle is of course amazing. I am not sure how far Rothenburg is from Munich but I highly recommend it too, maybe someone can tell you the distance, only about 45 min to one hr from Wurtzburg. Lovely little town, walkable, leave cars outside as I recall, I think you'd like it. Great Xmas store if still there, Kathi Wolfhart, Enjoy your trip. Sue

I do not support the previous suggestions, which IMO are either too touristy, too distant, or downright nightmarish.
Regensburg is a UNESCO World Heritage medieval city that you can reach in 1.5 hours by direct regional train from Munich's main station.
http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1155
Nuremberg can be reached in about 1 hour by high-speed train.
http://tourismus.nuernberg.de/image/...berg-03-79.jpg
Both of these are vibrant German cities with lots of variety, not just tourist enclaves.
Landsberg, Augsburg, Noerdlingen, Harburg and Donauwoerth are Romantic Road towns you can visit on a day trip from Munich - not so far, not quite so touristy as Rothenburg.
Rothenburg and Neuschwanstein would require round trip transport of 5+ hours from Munich.
Dachau... it pretty much ruins your day for anything else. You can indulge those emotions if you wish but I would not expect a visit to yield any new insights into the horrors that took place there. I would force all holocaust deniers to spend a day there if that were possible. But the rest of us already understand and remember, I think. Up to you of course - but do think it over before going.
For a 3-day adventure: Consider Franconia (Bamberg, Nuremberg, Rothenburg, Wuerzburg, Bad Wimpfen, Iphofen, Marktbreit, Coburg.) Also consider a visit to the Rhein Valley (where the real castles are - Braubach and St. Goar - and the old-world towns of Bacharach, Oberwesel, Ruedesheim, and Boppard.)

^^Yes, this.^^ Additionally, the camps have been "sanitized" as much as they can be, so the horror remembered by actually being there falls far short of the actual crimes committed. To each his/her own. The sculpture there created in the 60s is poignant.

If going to the popular places mentioned above that are all mainly in Bavaria buy the one-day Bavarian Pass, good on city buses and trams, buses and zillions of regional trains - just hop on. buy it at stations - no need to pre-book and for about 25-30 euros a day you have unlimited travel to all those places.
On weekends I think you may even get additional coverage.
Included is Salzburg, Austria even and this would be my top recommended day trip from Munich - one of the most gorgeous cities in Europe and small enough to appreciate in one day.
For lots on German trains check www.seat61.com; www.bahn.de/en (official site of German Railways);www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com -check the Germany section of this one's free online European Planning & Rail Guide for lots of possible day trip suggestions.
No need to rent a car.

Dear, all, Thank you for your suggestions
Rent a car is not possible as i am bad @ drving dont want to take risk.
If I take day trip packages will it work? suggest me should I book a stay in Muncih only or any other places like Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles
Linderhof
Dachau
Rothenberg
Rhein Valley
Franconia
If i am visiting these? which all these can be covered in three days?
My expected budget would be around EUR 250 to 300 approx including food, stay & travel for these three days.
Help me on this.

I second Fuss and Trophy about Dachau. And yes, it is the less 'horrific' site of holocaust I've seen. Too sanitized is indeed a fairly good description.
In Muenchen itself try to go to the opera it is a memorable experience.

Rhine Gorge needs a whole day including travel time and would be expensive train and boat wise unless getting a discounted ticket at www.bahn.de/en.
Dachau can be a half-day- and personally it was the first such camp I visited and even though it is mostly gone it still has a very evocative feeling I think well worth it (hard to find the right PC correct word for this) if you have not seen or will see other more whatever camps. Just a short S-Bahn + bus ride from Munich's center.
can't see any that could easily be combined into one day.
