Travel on the Amalfi Coast and Capri

Message: I have been reading all the threads but still have questions about travel around the Amalfi coast area.

My daughter (age 21) will be arriving in Positano on July 26, staying one night in Positano (at the hostel) and then the next night at the hostel in Atrani (Amalfi). Don't know why they are switching hostels, I think the girl who made the plans don't realize how close they are. I may talk them into staying in one place. After my daughter's traveling companions leave on July 29, she has two days until she needs to be in Rome to travel to Switzerland. She would like to stay in the Amalfi coast area and needs to be in Rome for the night train that leaves on July 31st at 8:30pm.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? She could go back to the same hostel in Positano but I thought she might like to spend a night in Capri or Ischia. There are hostels in both areas and she is looking for a chance to relax, she doesn't need to party. Then when she leaves Amalfi, would it be better to take the train back to Rome from Salerno rather than going through Naples?

I am also having a hard time finding the web pages for the ferries that go to Capri and Ischia. She asked me to look some info up as she is traveling and has to pay for her internet time. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Paula
Here's a website for boats/ferries between
Capri/Naples; Ischia/Naples; Sorrento/Capri etc.

http://www.caremar.it

Amalfi is closer to Salerno for the train to Rome, Salerno is easily reached by Ferry from Amalfi, or bus. The Eurostar (ES) trains are much faster than the Intercity trains.

From Sorrento, there are many options to reach Naples for the train to Rome.
Ferries, CS train, and buses.

IMO, Capri would be so beautiful at night, when many of the tourists leave.

Switching hostels? Who can know the wondrous workings of young minds? Maybe just for fun! Atrani and Positano are close, but have differing ambiance..
Hope she has a wonderful time! She might even decide to just hang out on the Amalfi Coast for the extra night and relax there!

Met several youths on our trip staying in hostels. They seemed to have a great time. The area is safe except perhaps Naples. Their hostel should have bus and ferry information- there are several ferry companies (Paul and Shark, Volaviamare(sp?). If not, they are certainly all over the place down on the beach. Depending on her finances, the bus to Salerno would be a cheaper option. Capri is beautiful though, but more expensive(again depends on financial situation. You can hardly go wrong along the whole coast-it is beautiful.

Paula - The best place to find a complete listing of ferry services to Capri is:

http://www.capri.net/salsa/lang/en/page/transport.html

This lists ALL companies - Alicost, LMP Caremar, NLG, Snav ... on one page for easy reference. Just choose your route.

For Ischia:

http://www.ischiaonline.it/page.php?...amp;mysty=blue

Which hostel are you refering to in Capri? I didn't know there was one. Do you mean Villa Eva?

The hostel in Ischia gets good reviews.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

P.S. Aneckc - Paul & Shark is actually a clothes company, - but they do advertise on the sides of some ferries, so that's maybe what you saw.

Steve, The hotel I was talking about is listed as a hotel but is really more like a hostel. It is Bussola di Hermes and its in Anacapri. I read about Villa Eva, sounds horrible! Thanks for the ferry info, I forwarded it to my daughter.

You have great suggestions here, but I was just searching myself and found Frommers (am I allowed to say that here?)Look up Campania and you then have the option to choose the city/town you want info on. Then click on "getting there". Really helped me.
