For generic questions like this, look at rome2rio.com. However tipsygus's suggestion will do the job. Take the train.

1st take a direct train Basel SBB (main train station) to Bern then switch to S-Bahn #1 to Niederwangen -takes all told about 75 minutes. Can leave about every half-hour -no need to pre-book - just buy tickets at Basel station and when doing so get a free Family Pass for your kids and then they always travel free on any Swiss transport you pay for - no need to buy kids' tickets -just ask for it when you buy your ticket.

For lots on Swiss trains - www.sbb.ch.

Thank you all, I thought you had to stay in local hotel to get free kids travel? I'm staying with my brother.

I may have errored - the Swiss Family Pass is free if you buy some kind of Swiss Pass or Card, etc. Sorry.

But I think there is a special price for kids - maybe free for 4 yr old. Anyway if doing just that one train trip it's very cheap to begin with.
