Stay away from the small towns to the north where the drug dealers live.
See the catacombs and the steps, visit the opera house.
Don't play games with the taxi drivers.
The last posting said it all. I saw an Italian opera there which was performed in Ukranian, except for the lead male who sang in Russian. I was somewhat disappointed because it felt like a huge grimey port, with ships belching fumes, etc. It was not a pristine seaside area.
