Travel from Varenna>MXP

Jump to last reply

My husband and I will be in the Lakes region for two nights and leaving October 26, 2016 after an 11 day Italy trip. Our flight departs from MXP at 10:40AM to USA.

It would seem that our only easy/real option is to stay either in Varenna or Como (not a top choice from what I've heard), but I'm just trying to plan how to get to the airport and what time to leave.

If we took a taxi (which seems to be the same as a private transfer) it would cost 160 EUR if we left at 7AM (more if we leave earlier due to 'night' hours). How long would it take?

Our other option seems to be train (total 38 EUR super-economy) leaving at 5:37 arriving 7:46 or leaving at 6:23 and arriving at 8:46. Is the later one cutting it too short? Where does the final train drop you off exactly in or near the airport?

If it's in our budget should we just hire a private driver or save (a lot of) money and wake up earlier for the train?

Thanks for the help!
