Travel from Positano to Rome
Some more help needed - we are finishing our honeymoon in Positano and need to get up to Rome to fly back. Is it possible to rent a car in Positano for one day and then drop it off at the Rome airport? from what I can tell the only place to rent a car is in Salerno or Sorrento. ideally we'd like to see Pompeii on the way as well. We've looked into various private drivers but the cost is at least 400 Euros, with an extra 50-75 Euros for 2 hours waiting time in Pompeii. any suggestions on how else to get up to Rome would be appreciated. we're going to have all our luggage with us so I don't think the bus or train is a viable option.
thanks in advance!

Jaylis,
There aren't really that many options. You could take a taxi to Sorrento, pick up your rental car, then go to Pompeii as you mentioned on the way to Rome. When we visited Pompeii two years ago, there was a secure area for luggage, so you wouldn't have to worry about keeping luggage in the car while you tour.
If you have several days in Positano, you could also consider going to Pompeii as a day trip. This can be done by taking the SITA bus ( or a taxi) to Sorrento, then the local train ( about 30 min) to Pompeii.
If you do Pompeii as a day trip, you could consider taking a private driver from Positano( about 100-120E) to Naples, then the Eurostar back to Rome.

Jaylis - When are you going? A relatively hassle-free option with luggage might be the direct Positano-Rome bus ...

Steve - that site looks very cool, unfortunately it's all in Italian! I didn't see an "English" button but maybe I missed it. We're traveling mid-September.
Weadles, is it a huge hassel to get to Sorrento to pick up a rental car? I'm willing to be slightly inconvenienced to save $500.
thanks again.

Jaylis - The Marozzi coach leaves Positano about 4.15 p.m.
Journey time to Roma Tiburtina is about 4hrs 45'
Fare: appr. € 18.
The bus ride to Sorrento takes about 45 mins if you prefer to hire a car there.
Hope this helps ...
