Travel from Paris to Bailleval?

I'm going to Paris in April and would like to surprise an old friend who lives in Bailleval (a small village). But I've never been to France, don't speak French and am not sure if it would be better to take a train, rent a car, or use a taxi. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

From the map, looks like its about 3-4km from Clermont-de-l'Oise, which has regional rail service from Paris Gare d'Nord about every hour, and takes about 45 minutes. Not sure how to get to the village from there, however. Though in the worst case, walk....

Thanks for the advise. I'll look into the train service. Do you think driving is a bad idea?

I hoping someone can tell me if renting a car to get to Bailleval is a bad idea, especially since there will be two other people traveling with me - if might be more cost efficient. Also, how much is gas in France at the moment (in gallons S'il vous plait). I'm also considering going to Monet's home which I "think" might be in the same general direction. Any help here would greatly appreciated ;-)

no, I think it's a good idea actually as that town is just a bit NE of CDG airport, so you wouldn't even have to drive into Paris to do that, just drive from the airport. So driving that route shouldn't be that difficult. In fact, because there are three of you and that's a small town (with no rail service, I imagine), it's probably a very good idea.

I don't know the cost of gas in France right now, but I think it's around 5 euro a gallon--just an educated guess from experience.

Monet's home isn't exactly the same direction at that town, but it's not too far off so that's not a bad idea. At least it's not the totally opposite direction from the airport (it's to the west of the place you are going.

sorry I meant Bailleval is a bit NW of the airport, not NE -- anyway it's northish.

Expecting one-day rentals to be pricey, I did some cost comparisons.

Auto Europe doesn't offer one-day rentals in France. A three-day rental for a compact car is around $190.

By going directly to Europcar (one of the companies with which Auto Europe has contracts), I found a one-day rental for $170.

You may be able to find other companies that offer cheaper rates for one day. The quotes I gave are just to help you get started.

To get to Giverny by public transportation, take a regional train to Vernon (E11.60) and either a bus or taxi from there.

A ticket on a regional train from Paris to Clermont-de-l'Oise costs E10.10. Perhaps you could take either a taxi or a bus from there to Bailleval, but I wasn't able to find out if those services exist.

Thansks for all your help and suggestions. I just figured out how to find my thread so it's been awhile, but I appreciate those of you who took time to answer my query. I think I'll probably rent a car. Merci!
