trastevere question
I have rented an apartment in Trastevere in September on Via Garibaldi but when I try to google map it I only find Via Guiseppe Garibaldi. Are they one and the same?
I've never been to Rome before and plan on the train from Fumincino to Stazione Trastevere and walking to the apartment from there so really need to determine exactly where it is.
Thanks!

There is only one Via Garibaldi in Rome. Some maps (and websites) will include Giuseppe and some won't.
But you should search the full address (including street number) because this is a very long street, and it could be a longer walk from the station than would be comfortable. If you search on Google, click on the pedestrian icon above the A-to-B boxes to see the suggested walking path.

Don't plan to walk from the Trastevere station with luggage to an apartment on the via Garibaldi. It is really much to far to walk even without luggage, and much of the street goes uphill, so with luggage it can be quite a drag (literally). Also, it could be raining or lousy hot. If you've never been to Rome, you can very easily get lost in the Trastevere. It is Rome oldest neighborhood, and a tangle of poorly marked streets.
Plan to take a taxi from the station. They'll be available outside the station.

Are you talking about the #8 tram? I'm not sure it will go where you want to go. Do you have a more complete street address for the rental? Here's the tram map.

The only bus I see on via Garibaldi is # 125.
Since you are taking the FR1 from FCO to Trastevere, enter Trastevere Stazione and via Garibaldi (add the street number) on ATAC to get your route.

It's possible bus #115 intersects with some points of Garibaldi depending how far out you are.

After entering your street number, it appears you are at the end of Garibaldi close to the river. ATAC says tram 8 and get off before it crosses the river to walk the rest of the way (650 meters).

why not get a cab on your arrival? it probably won't cost a lot and it'll be a lot better than traipsing up and down the via garibaldi in the heat with your luggage, however small it is.
then you can explore the local transport at your leisure.

I agree with annhig, being driven to your place upon arrival is worth the cost. Deposit your luggage, water your face, grab your map and explore that awesome area. Buses and trams from that area are very easy to do. Enjoy! 21 days and counting down.....

If you aren't used to public transportation, it might be easier to book something from the airport. If you take the train, be sure to validate your ticket before boarding and be ready to get off at your stop (the scheduled stop time at Trastevere is 1 minute).

On my last trip to Rome, I met a family in the Trastevere, carying/dragging their luggage and desperately lost. They thought they would just take the train, and walk to their rental. After 1+ hour, with 2 young children, they were regreting that decision!
Take the train and then grab a cab to your rental. A few extra euros but you'll be tired after your trip and once you're settled you can get out and get your bearings.
Do you mind me asking who you booked your rental thorugh? I'm looking for something similar in Oct. Thanks.

Hi, thanks you are all most helpful; I will take a taxi from Trastevere station to Via Garibaldi. I am in fact very used to public transportation at home but not in Rome, having never been there of course.
I booked through sleepinitaly.com They have had good reviews both on this forum and on tripadvisor.com. Through other companies I've booked apartments in Paris, Vienna and Prague in the past few years, all of which exceeded my expectations.

Google Maps places "Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, 78, Rome, RM, Italy" at the other end of Trastevere from the Trastevere station, near the intersection with Via della Lungara, a walk of about 2.6 km.

ellen- ATAC puts 78 at the same place as Google when you enter it in route finder. Why do you think it's elsewhere?
If it's the Garibaldi terrace apartment, Sleep in Italy's map puts it in the same spot. I don't think you can pay much attention to street numbers in old parts of Italian towns. They never seem to make sense.

Just because of the numbering I DID find when I checked the buildings in street view. I tested some other miscellaneous street numbers (5, 17, 23, 30) and and the numbering didn't seem correct. I just didn't want to affirm it was correct without better proof. If ATAC says the same, then I feel better about the numbering.
