Transylvania in 4 days
Our family of 4 is planning to visit Transylvania in June. Thinking of hiring car with driver in Budapest or over border, in Oradea. Any suggestions on towns to visit, 3-5 star hotels and restaurants? Thank you for advise.

Definitely plan to spend at least 2 days in the Brasov area. You may base yourself in Brasov itself which has an interesting centre or in Poiana Brasov a ski resort 15-20km from Brasov. From Brasov you must visit the Bran castle with a possible excursion on the road south toward Cimpulung (nice views similar to the Swiss Alps) and the citadels of Prejmer and Rucar. Another interesting city is Sibiu and also plan a trip to the village of Sibiel, little known but very authentic, 25 km from Sibiu.
Do not miss the town of Sighisoara. Both Sighisoara and Bran are related to Vlad Tepes aka Vlad Dracu aka Dracula. If you had more time I would recommend the region of Oash in northern Transilvania with the interesting Happy Cemetary.
Have fun.

Other than the things that Tibi very well suggested, I can add to visit Sinaia and its castle called Peles, once the residence of the romanian King Carol. Peles is a museum and it can be visited. I also suggest to drive through the Transilvanian area, because it is very characteristic. You will be amazed to find some villages around the Castle of Bran that have a german trace. That's because some centuries ago some Saxons came to live in the area and preserved their language and traditions (technically speaking it is a so called "language island". You can find the germanic trace in Brasov (in the gothic lutheran Black Church for example) and in Sibiu. Transilvania preserves magiar traditions too. If you stay in Brasov, the most known hotel-restaurant is ARO. I advise you to try the SARMALE, spiced meat balls wrapped in grape leaves and served with sour cream and MITITEI, spicy grilled meat balls. These are traditional specialties that you can find everywhere in Romania!

Yes, well said by Batuffolina. I did not mention Sinaia and the Peles castle because it is not in Transilvania but in Muntenia. Nevertheless if you are in Brasov and you have enough time I would strongly recommend a visit to Sinaia, about 30-40km away. Also order papanasi, pronounced papanash,a sort of donought, in restaurants especially in the Brasov area.
Oh, and make an effort to see the local folk dances. They are great!

I know HOTEL ARO in Brasov, which can be a good starting point to tour the area. There are then plenty of hotels in POIANA area, a hilly area near Brasov but there is mainly only that up there. Brasov tends to be very lively . Hotel Aro is quite a good hotel too
