if you are going on a cruise -- most ships offer transfers from LHR to the pier.
Otherwise - how many of you? There are many car services that do runs to Southampton. Google "LHR to Southampton transoport" and you find lots of options.
You could also take a coach to Reading, then transfer to the train station and a train to Southampton - but that would be a slog w/ luggage.
National Express have several coaches each day from Heathrow to Southampton. Takes 2 1/4 hours and costs around £15.
The time of the National Express coaches depends very much on time of day and which terminal you arrive at. I have done Southampton to Heathrow a couple of times, but both time to Terminal 5 (the first stop) and it took just over 90 minutes including 10 minutes stop at Winchester.
Our local taxi company (just outside Southampton) quoted me around £70 - but add £5-10 to that to allow for the extra distance.
