Transportation questions-London to Santorini-santorini or Athens to Venice

Could you advise us on the best ( most economical along with reasonable speed) way to get from London to Santorini? We are four adults and will be traveling next May/June.

We used dividend miles and could only get flights to London and return from Venice. We actually had no intention of going to London- but $200 for four to fly round trip to Europe from US is too difficult to pass up.

Then after Santorini we will go either to Athens to get to Venice or not- if another way is better (again economical while being reasonably quick). We don't have any reservations in those cities, so we could be flexible. All we have booked are the flights

I have checked Easyjet and some other carriers- but can't find Athens to Venice. We also don't want to spend $3,000 to get from the UK to Greece.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

There is ferry service between Patras - not far from Athens overnight to Venice - doubt if you're looking for that but it may seem rather romantic to some and can save on the cost of a hotel but it is a long ride. Or by plane try a city near Venice like Verona or Trieste then take the train to Venice.

Olympic, Alitalia, BA, Veuling and one I don't know, Air One, fly Athens to Venice Marco Polo direct. There are likely others to nearby airports.

If you sign up for the Aegean Airlines email newsletter you'll be notified of the upcoming promo fares they offer from time to time. Expect offers for next May/June to show up sometime during the winter months. Flights from Venice to Athens will be as low as €69 per person, all taxes included. Flights to Santorini about €40. The ferry from Patras to Venice is fairly cheap for Deck Class but if you want a sleeping cabin for 2 it takes 34 hours and will cost over €375 plus meals, so flying to Athens makes the best sense.

Wikipedia offers a surprisingly good list of airlines that fly to Santorini.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santori...tional_Airport

Operators from London include Easyjet, BA, Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook. From Santorini you could fly to Verona, or elsewhere in Italy, and take a train to Venice.

The downside of what you want do is any savings you make flying across the Atlantic are wiped out trying to get to and from Santorini. Anyway, good luck planning.
