Transportation in and around Munich

We will be two adults arriving early morning at the Munich Airport. We will be heading for the Sendlinger Tor subway station. We will be spending the day Friday touring around the city center. On Saturday, we will be taking an excursion to Neuschwanstein Castle. On Sunday, we will have the morning to check out Munich a little further, and then head to the airport in the afternoon.

My head is spinning with the various ticket options. I get the sense we may not need public transit within Munich itself because it seems pretty walkable, but I am at a loss as to the best option for the airport transfers and Castle excursion. There does not seem to be a multi-day pass. I am thinking that I need either 2 single Sbahn tickets or a Partner-Day ticket for Friday, a Bayern ticket for Saturday, and another couple of Sbahn tickets for Sunday. Is this correct? Your guidance will be much appreciated!

Just relax and take it day by day. When you get there you might alter your plans slightly. On the day of, go to a booth at your public transportation departing point and get advice from the ticket person (asking in English is fine). The differences in cost between one option or another will be less than the difference between getting wurst at a stand at the Viktualienmarkt vs. the Hofbrauhaus. It's not worth fretting about.

When you get off the plane there are ticket counters where you can buy tickets into the city center. It is very walkable.

Traveling to and fro the airport and around the city center (which is very walkable) is one thing.

But taking a train or tour to Mad Ludwig's castles is a different matter - this is a real train - not the in-city S Bahn.

Actually, you got it worked out by yourself already pretty well.
On first and last day you should get a Partner Ticket for the whole network. It costs a euro or two more that two single rides to or from the airport, but you can hop on any subway, tram or bus without thinking about buying a ticket.
For your trip to Neuschwanstein you should get the Bayern Ticket - from the vending machines at your nearest transit stop at Sendlinger Tor as it will then also cover the subway ride to central station to catch the train to Füssen.

Getting in from the airport, take the S-Bahn into as far as Marienplatz and change there for the U-Bahn (subway) southbound to Sendlinger Tor, one stop along. The direction you want will show as Klinikum Großhadern or Fürstenried West. The alternative is changing at the central railway station but changing there between the S-Bahn and U-Bahn platforms takes rather longer.

I realized that I never thanked you all for your comments. As you assured me, it was less complicated than I was making it out to be. Partner tickets for the travel days to and from the airport, and the Bayern for the day of the excursion worked very well.

regarding the part of neuschwanstein:

you have 2 options :

1- By Day-Tours :

i recommend the tour below (high quality services and organization and you will have the opportunity to visit Linderhof castle on the way to Neuschwanstein but not hohenschwangau that is located on the same village as Neuschwanstein, you will see it just from the outside but no enough time to visit the inside)
http://www.partner.viator.com/en/13746/Munich/d487-ttd

2- By Train :
cheap : 26Eur Transportation + 24Eur Neuschwanstein Ticket (in case you want to visit Hohenschwangau too means another 24 Eur for the tickets )
you book the castle tickets before at least 24hours online here
https://www.hohenschwangau.de/856.0.html

you take the train of 09:53 from the HBF or any train after 9h, and follow me here :
