Transportation -- Bolzano to Varenna

We are in the early planning stages of a trip to Italy next spring. I was wondering if there is an easy/convenient way via public transportation to get from Bolzano to Varenna? Or can we catch the Bernina Express somehow from Bolzano via public transportation to end up in Varenna or somewhere close. I may be way off base here but here's our itinerary so far

Venice -- 4 nights (day trip to Verona)
Florence -- 2 nights
Cinque Terre -- 3 nights (day trip to Pisa?)
Bolzano -- 2 nights
Varenna or Lake Orta ?? nights
Milan to home

We have a total of 17 nights, I need to fill 6 more nights. This will be our 4th time to Italy. We LOVE Venice, have been to Rome twice, Florence once quickly, Cinque Terre once (loved it too).
