TransferWise
Has anyone used TransferWise to send money from Europe to the States? More specifically, from a bank in France? I can't quite figure out what type of guarantees TransferWise offers since it requires a deposit into its European account. Thanks.

One Fodorite had mentioned using the site, but a search of TransferWise or transferwise in the past year yields this result: No results found for "transferwise" in Europe between 06/04/2013 and 11/04/2014 , which presumably includes my current posting--so much for Fodor's search engine. The same results occur if searching all the Fodor forums.
My problem is that I have detail issues at both end of the transfer and I would prefer to find out the solution from a user rather than from the agency which might be hiding potential kinks in the system.

Micahel: Fodors hasn't indexed the site since at least April. Therefore, a search will not find ANY posts or thread since that time - re any topic. Instead of using Fodors search -- google will likely find any Fodors posts if they exist.

If the money is still in the original bank account, tell the bank not to pay it and switch to another transferring system.
I have a friend who transfers money on a monthly basis from the UK to the States with no problems.

TransferWise is the best!
I've used it many times for the owner of the apartment we book in Paris (his suggestion).
It is flawless.
You do have to pay attention to what you're doing. Customer Service is exceptional.
A week ago, I paid the balance on our upcoming booking.
The rate dollara to Euros was 0.94135 (XE that day 0.93678) and the charge for the transaction was 0.0095% of the total funds sent.

The criteria varies by country to/from - you do have to meet all criteria in order to conduct a transaction.
From the USA to France, there is no deposit into any TransferWise account. The funds are debiteed to my USA checking account in USD and deposited directly into the owner's bank account in Euros.Las
Might be same France to USA. Last year, for him to return the damaage deposit, I simply filled out a request form and he checked off the boxes and it was in my account a few days later.

I just did a TransferWise transaction recently to book an apartment in Val Gardena -- seems like a lot of the vacation apartments are not set up for online booking so they ask for money to be wired as booking deposit.
So I noticed there is an Apple Pay option now and it was only about 1 Euro more than using ACH from your bank so I pulled out my iPhone and authenticated it. I think you need to be running High Sierra on your Mac and obviously Safari browser.
After I did it, I wondered if it was going to be coded as a cash advance so I called Chase and they said it would be and that there would be a cash advance fee and it would accrue interest as soon as it posted. It was in Pending when I checked right after I made the transaction.
So they said the only way to avoid paying interest is to pay off the whole balance on the card, so I basically paid off the last statement balance and the balance accrued since the last statement, so a large part of what I will owe on the next statement.
Would have been better off using ACH, though that usually takes a couple of days to process.
Oh well, live and learn, But it's so easy to do Apple Pay transactions on sites and apps. which support it.
