Trains schedules - Italy
Hello,
I would be travelling through Italy for a week in June.Am trying to look for train tickets and book them through trenitalia.com but I cant seem to find the schedules of various trains. As in what time they depart and arrive at various locations. For instance for the train from Milan to Venice, I see it departs at 12:00 but i'm unable to take that and need to know timings of other trains that depart the same day from Milan to Venice.
I'm really short of time to spend when there and hence nee the planning to be precise. Any form of help would be great.

The best site to use to search timetables of trains across Europe is www.bahn.com then when you know your train times you can go back to Trenitalia. The cheapest trains will be made available 3 months in advance so booking for your journey is already open... so book now for the cheapest tickets. There are plenty of trains between Milan and Venice, at least 2 fast trains an hour by the looks of it taking around 2.5hrs to make that journey. Hope that helps.

Summer schedules (2nd weekend in June through 2nd weekend in Dec.) aren't loaded yet. You have to keep checking
Trenitalia every day until they appear. If you want an idea of trains/times on your route, enter a date before June 8th. Summer schedules will not change much from winter schedules.

Trenitalia allows booking the faster trains 120 days in advance, but if the schedules aren't loaded yet, you can't book even though we are in that 120 day window for June.
Summer schedules (2nd weekend in June through 2nd weekend in Dec.) aren't loaded yet. You have to keep checking

How quickly do trains fill up? I mean, is it really necessary to book ahead if you're not taking say a night train or something that needs a reservation?
Couldn't you just show up at the train station the morning you want to leave and get your ticket then?

You could just show up and buy a ticket the same day. Trains might sell out on holidays and similar popular travel days. However, Milan-Venice is a popular route with frequent departures. the main advantage of purchasing online is to obtain one of the heavily discounted tickets that might be available if you purchase far enough ahead.
For example, I just priced a ticket between Milano CE and Venezia SL for the end of May. The regular "Base" fares offered were:
51.50€ - 1st class
37.50€ - 2nd class
When I selected a particular train, I was offered the following "Economy" fares (which have more refund restrictions) on the very same train for the very same seats:
38.00€ - 1st class (13.50€ savings)
19.00€ - 2nd class (18.50€ savings)
The savings can add up.
