Trains in Italy - Help needed
On 9 September I shall be travelling by train from Rimini to Rome, arriving in Roma Termini at 9.30. We will then try to catch the 9.52 Leonardo Express train, to arrive at Fiumicino airport by 10.23. I absolutely need to arrive by that time at the airport since I have a flight at 12.30. Now my questions are: do you think I have enough time to arrive from the platform in Roma Termini to the platform from where the Leonardo express train leaves? And secondly, are you of the idea of booking the tickets beforehand so as to avoid the queues? I cannot afford of finding the train full up and wait for the next one otherwise I lose the flight. I have never used Italy trains before. Since the journey is a over 4 hours, do you recommend a seat reservation? Thanks

If you are taking an ES train and buying your tickets from Trenitalia then your seat reservation is inculded in the ticket. I think the trains from Termini to FCO are D trains and you can't get seat reservations. You should be able to buy your Leonardo Express when you buy your Rimini/Termini ticket.
Another option is to have a limo service waiting at Termini to take you to the airport. There is also a shuttle bus - www.terravision.it

You've given the relevant facts except for one: what are the consequences if you miss this flight? Will you be out $200? thousands? Will you enjoy an extra day in Rome or freak out?
To catch this 04:27 train in Rimini, you're going to get up at what... 03:30? Your last night in Rimini is THAT important? If it were me, I would sleep one extra hour (because I could go from bed to foot on the gas pedal in 15 minutes), and make this trip by (rented) car. It's true that it would result in my arrival at the GRA in the middle of rush hour traffic (about 08:30). Then again, driving in the wee hours, you might even make that distance (363 km) in only three hours.
But to me, being behind the wheel would give a greater sense of control over the likelihood of succeeding in this risky trip.
No doubt, it would cost more to (rent and) drive (and of course, you would have to had rented the car on the 8th or earlier).
Best wishes,
Rex

Hi marsi,
Hoping to make an Italian train with only 20 min, after having to change trains to get to Rome, is very iffy.
I would get up an hour earlier and take the 03:05 arriving Rome TE at 08:17.
You will more than likely make the 8:51 train to FCO. If not, there are still the 9:22 and the 9:52.
