I'm also going to Poland later in the year, including Warsaw, and will be traveling by train. I've been advised by several sources (including the TI in Krakow) to book trains once I get there and not too far ahead. I have a friend who tried to book a train from Krakow to another city outside Poland and used an agency and the tickets never arrived so she had to buy tickets once in Krakow.
Polish trains are pretty cheap and there will be lots of space.
The train will take about 9 hours so you might want to consider flying from Warsaw to Vienna.
You can look at the schedule on this site.

You will have no problem IME buying that ticket once in Warsaw - do it upon arrival - the worst I could imagine is that you'd have to go first class which in my decades of incessant European rail travel tells me is well worth the extra money - especially those with baggage as there is lots more room to store them by your seat in first class. And unless these trains require advance reservations you can always board even if they are full - but they would rarely if ever be full in first class. I suppose the Polish or perhaps Austrian Railways web sites may offer some kind of online discount (www.oebb.at for Austria I believe) - in the U.S. Rail Europe handles these tickets and generally marks them up a bit (not nearly the horrendous amounts folks ignorantly blather about here without checking though at times that can be true - but check RE pricing anyway and you can comfortably pay with your credit card and have the tickets before leaving, etc. if you are the Nervous Nellie type who just wants to show up with ticket in hand and hop on the train - check out these fab sites IMO for great info on trains in Eastern Europe - www.ricksteves.com; www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com (for any Rail Europe product or info call IMO byron at the latter site's number - I have bought passes from him for years and can attest to his great personal service with questions, etc - a RE agent but without some of their handling fees I believe.

Hi,
thanks for your advice.I've looked into some, actually few, airlines flying the warsaw-vienna route considering the fact that it's a long train travel(i'm usually bored onboard that long and i'm with my Mom who's a senior citizen.Uhm,i might as well just take a day tour in Warsaw from Krakow(my main interest) then fly out to Wien or maybe just go back to Budapest(via orangeways bus). Train scheds often change during December i think.Right now,i'll just gather as much information about this. Rae
