My husband, son and I are traveling by train from Budapest to Vienna and later from Vienna to Brno. We were recently in Berlin and while there I purchased our train tickets for both journeys. Unlike PREMS tickets I've purchased in France, these (purchased at the DBahn counter) did not require me to list the names of the travelers. Will I need to stop at another DBahn counter somewhere to get that done before starting our journey, or did I essentially invest in "train futures" that I can use for anyone who accompanies me on the train ride for which I reserved the seats?
The tickets I purchased for Salzburg are, I think, some kind of family ticket permitting me to fill a cabin for 5 with as many of my family as will fit. Does this sound reasonable? Common? On this one the third member of our group is no longer coming, so it will be just me and my husband traveling on a "family" ticket. Is there some minimum you have to meet to make these tickets apply to a "family"? They were incredibly cheaper than single tickets.
Trains: Budapest to Vienna, Vienna to Brno, Munich airport to Salzburg

You cannot fill a compartment with as many people as will fit. First, you do not know that the train will have compartments. The Bayern pass is for up to 5 people and I believe the current price is E33. They're not only for families but for people traveling together.
I can't really answer the first question but from my limited experience I had to show the train conductor the credit card that I used to purchase my tickets.
Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I don't have to worry on the Bayern pass thing and on the others I'll be sure to bring along the same credit card. I guess that gives them at least a minimum control. Appreciate your taking the time to help me on this.
