We will be arriving by air in Rome on January 1 at 8:00 am and plan to take the train from the airport to Termini and then catch a train to Florence. It appears that Trenitalia is between schedules (only one night train shows up when I query their schedule). The question is whether there will be a reduced number of trains on January 1 because it is a holiday or do the same number of trains run as on any other Friday.? Are we going to have problems getting to Florence if we wait to buy our tickets when we get there (again because it is a holiday)?

Trenitalia will not be loading their winter schedules until mid-December. Schedules won't change much. Enter a date within the next 7 days to see all trains.
and anyway, trains will be slower...just cuz it's Italy
As it's a public holiday, the train service will be similar to that on a Sunday.
