We are renting a cottage in St. Cyprien for two weeks. Our 19-year daughter is arriving in a few days, flying into Bordeaux. We had planned to have her take the train right to the station in St. Cyprien. My husband needs to leave next week, and we thought we'd also have him take the train to Bordeaux from St. Cyprien. There are trains that work for the schedules we need.

Today we went to look for the station and were surprised to see that it isn't a proper station... really only a shelter. This didn't seem to be an attended station.

Has anyone taken a train between Bordeaux and St. Cyprien? Does the train always stop there, or do you need to signal for a stop? Where do you purchase tickets if you're boarding the train in St. Cyprien?

Would there be a better station fairly near St. Cyprien to take a train to/from Bordeaux?

Thanks for any suggestions anyone can offer!

You presumably have a car. I suspect that train schedules to Bergerac or Périgueux are more frequent than to Saint Cyprien. It might make sense to use one of these stations to connect with Bordeaux.

In 20 years, I've never even seen a train go by or stop at that station, and I'm in St-Cyprien a lot. Even assuming there's a TER line that connects there on the Siorac-en-Périgord-Couzelas line, it could take hours and hours to catch a train.

She should take the Corail to Périgueux from Bordeaux. They're usually timed to leave Bordeaux-St-Jean just a bit after the TGVs arrive from Paris. The fare is about 15 euro. You'll need to allow about an hour to go pick her up in Périgueux. Traffic on the outskirts of the city can be nasty, and you'll have about a dozen roundabouts to navigate.

Actually, I checked the TER Aquitaine lines and found this, where you can fill in the details and get the schedules on the Bordeaux-Bergerac-Sarlat line, which has stops in St-Cyprien:

I don't know what your dates are, or days of the week, so you'll have to plug those in.

As for the train stopping, I would assume when she shows her ticket to the conductor, he'll make sure the train stops there.

In fact there IS a train to St Cyprien from Bordeaux. It is a station that was unused for many years, but recently re-opened. I checked the SNCF site, http://www.voyages-sncf.com/ and found 6 trains, each about 2 hours, from Bordeaux to St Cyprien (from 6 a.m to approximately 6 pm.) Fare is about 23 Euros. So it is possible to take the train.

Thanks everyone for responding so quickly. And yes, we do have a car.

I had checked the SNCF site and there is a train from Bordeaux that stops in St. Cyprien that works well with our daughter's schedule-- and also one that works for my husband going the other direction a few days later. Given our plans this Saturday, it would be much easier if she could arrive in St. Cyprien instead of us having to go ro Périgueux, two+ hours round trip.

I guess we'll give it a shot. Our daughter speaks French well so hopefully she can talk with the conductor to make sure there's a stop at St. Cyprien. I'll report back... this may be of interest to others too.

Usually if the schedule shows a stop, the train will stop there!

Just to confirm, I have taken that train myself, both ways, to and from Bergerac. Anyway, just want to reassure KathyWood that it's a great train if you're staying in St. Cyprien or nearby.

St. Cirq, I'm surprised you haven't seen the train go by...it's the regular train that runs from Bordeaux to Bergerac to Sarlat, at least a couple of times every day and evening, for years. It only stops at St. Cyprien once or twice a day, I forget when.

Our daughter arrived safely by train at St. Cyprien yesterday evening, right on schedule. The train had just three cars, and several other people got off at the little stop.

Five minutes later we were back at our house in the main part of the village. This was really an easy option for us and it worked well with her flight schedule arriving in Bordeaux.
