Hello,
I am planning to go to the Jungfraujoch during the peak season (Monday, July the 16th) and I just wanted to know if I have to make a reservation for the train days or weeks in advance or if I can wait until the day of the ride (or the day before). I am asking because I am still not sure when exactly I will be able to go to Interlaken.
Also, would your answer change if I take the very first train in the morning?

No - you don;t have to reserve a place on the train i nadvance. BUT, you need to be aware that on many days the top of the mountain is wrathed in clouds, you can see nothing, and ascending makes no sense. We were in Interlaken 3 days in June waiting for one with weather clear enough at the top to be able to see anything.
So - you may want to allow yourself some flexibility of date.
You CANNOT make (seat) rerservation on Jungfrau trains even if you want to. You however if you are a group of 10 persons or more.

If you are less than 10, it's a free seating. You take whichever seats that's not occupied.
Also keep in mind it can be a bit of a scramble in Lauterbrunnen getting seats for the train. There are no orderly queues (and the Brits are just as bad as the rest of the scrum). People often try to push their way on before everyone has gotten off. Still, all is forgiven once the train starts moving and everyone is oohing and ahhing at the scenery. FWIW, I prefer to sit facing backwards for that knockout view of the Lauterbrunnen valley as the train ascends.
