I will be heading to Chiusi from Milan for a few days in December, and subsequently am traveling to Venice. I have checked Trenitalia and DBahn websites, but I have not been able to find the prices for them. Some require reservations, some apparently do not. I understand that it is about 4.5 hours from Milan Centrale to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme and about 4.25 hours from Chiusi to Venice Mestre. Is this correct? Also, what are the approximate prices for a second-class ticket? If I can't book the tickets online, will they be sold out when I go to the station and buy them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Some of the trains mays be Regionale (R), the slowest type of trains. These will not show prices online unless you check for dates in the next 7 days. Try looing again, but use a date within the enxt week.
There are frequent trains on those routes. I doubt you would have trouble buying same-day tickets.

There are frequent trains on those routes. I doubt you would have trouble buying same-day tickets. And there is no benefit to buying R tickets online in any case. Using a date within the next week should make all prices and schedules available for you to consider.
The R train price between Chiusi and Florence is 11.30€. It doesn't sell out because there are no reserved seats. R tickets must be validated in the yellow machines before boarding.
IC tickets between Chiusi and Florence are 17€. There are some IC trains you can take all the way from Chiusi to Milan without changing trains.
I would take an R train to Florence and change to the AV train (much nicer than R or IC trains). Regular price Florence/Milan is 50€, but there are discounts (as cheap as 9€) for advance purchase of AV tickets. IC tickets also have discounts for advance purchase. Florence/Venice AV train is 45€. AV and IC tickets have reserved seats so you don't need to validate the tickets (they will be checked on board).
It's too far in advance to purchase the AV or IC tickets (no more than 120 days out). Current discounts may change in Dec. as that is when Trenitalia updates schedules for winter (usually the 2nd week).
Thanks guys for you replies. I would prefer the direct trains from Milan to Chiusi, even if they aren't as good because I find it too much of a hassle. Have been really frustrated with the limitation of the timetable. Let me use your tip and see if a schedule/price for next week works
