I will be getting a train from Gare du Bercy to Joigny (se of Paris)in early Oct 2012. It seems it is fairly much a local train. At the moment tickets are $34 aust. Should I get the tickets now, or will they stay the same price even if I buy them when in Paris? (I know tickets on the Thalys etc are cheaper the earlier you purchase them)

Ticket prices to Joigny are 22.80€ (or $28.50 at today's exchange rate) no matter when you purchase them.
As Sarastro says there is no benefit in booking local trains in advance. Generally speaking, high speed long distance trains will be cheaper when you purchase them ahead of travel (usually up to 90 days in advance) whereas regional trains have standard priced tickets and regular departures.
