If you're asking about the main train station in Milan's city center, it's "Stazione Centrale". It's NOT close to Malpensa Airport, but is easy to get to. Public transport choices: Malpensa Express train (45 min), Malpensa Shuttle Bus (50 min), taxi (presume travel time is about same -- costs most). Do note that MXP Express train actually goes into Cadorna Nord station which is a few metro stops from Stazione Centrale. If you're renting a car & driving into Milan, it's an easy route. Or seems so from how the bus got there.

NOW, if you're asking about the other airport in Milan, Linate, it is located closer in to the city. Not flown thru Linate -- in this instance, a taxi may be easiest. Assume there is a bus and/or train option from here as well.

The obvious question: Where do you go once you've arrived in Milan? It could make a difference as to which station you want to arrive at in the city.

Warning for those shlepping thier own bags around Milano Centrale. When we were there about ten days ago, both the escalator and the elevators were out of service. As you must go up or down about fifty steps from the train platform to the doors leading outside to taxis, etc., this could be a challenge. I had a 6'3" guy who managed out 4 bags, but it was tough even for him. Did overhear an employee mention to an elderly Italian lady something about assistance from an office if she needed it. But, if there is assistance, you need to know to seek it out. Probably in Italian!

Any estimates on what a taxi from Milan train station to MXP should cost? Thanks.

I have the same question. I fly into Milan at 6:00 pm. and need to get to Varenna. I assumed I would take the train and be there by about 9:00 p.m. Now I am wondering. If it takes that long to get to the train station and then 1-1/2 Hr. to Varenna, I am getting to the hotel pretty late. Is it possible to just take a taxi to Varenna, or would that be very expensive?
