Train ride from Venice to Milan
We will need to head back to the State on Sunday Nov 2, and because we are using buddy passes, and want to make sure we get on a plane, we are thinking about taking the train from Venice to Milan on Saturday and spending the day in Milan until we have to go to the airport. There are more available seats leaving Milan than leaving Venice. How long is the train ride? Any ideas or opinions on Milan will also be appreciated.

The train ride is almost 3 hours, but that is to the central station. MXP is 30 miles west of Milan with a bus service from the station that takes an hour. You may want to stay near the airport if you need to react quickly for space.

There are so many trains i would not worry about availability - buy your tickets at any Italian station - worst possible scenario would be to have to go first class - but on IC trains you can always board as they do not take reservations - which are mandatory on IC+ and Eurostar and EC trains that are faster.

Hello Maidalsabel, here is the website for the Malpensa Bus that takes you from the central train station in Milan to Malpensa Airport.

A hotel that we liked located right at Malpensa with free shuttle service is the Crowne Plaza. Newer hotel, great rooms, and not too expensive. Now, location is not great, sort of in an industrial area, but we only spent the night and had 0800 flight next morning so it worked for us. Maybe 5 minutes from terminal
