Train or bus from Chianti to Siena

I'm looking for a way to take public transportation from Chianti to Siena on July 1st to attend the Palio trails. We're staying in Greve and we do have a car. I've asked our hotel what they'd recommend and they tell me driving is the best option. Having been to the Palio 3 times, I know that a car is probably not best scenario given the parking situation.

I know there's no public transportation from Greve to Siena but, I was hoping maybe we could drive to another town in the Provence of Siena and take a bus or train. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I know we could take a train out of our way to Florence and then back to Siena but trying to avoid doing that. Any ideas appreciated.
