Train from Rome airport to Naples
We are traveling to Italy at the end of this month and plan to take trains from the Leonardo da Vinci airport into Rome and then connect with a train to Naples. From there we plan to hire someone to drive us to Positano. There appears to be several options for trains from the airport into Rome. Do anyone have any insight as to which is the easiest to take? Any other feedback on our intinerary is greatly appreciated.

This is a very useful chart:

Like neckervd says, it's the Leonardo express to Rome - around €11.
There are a lot of options, as I remember you can even go by ferry to Positano depending on what time you get in it could be interesting. If you wanted to do that it would be best to take a high speed train from Roma Termini, where the Leonardo Express gets in to Salerno from which there are more ferrys from there.
Personally I'm about public transport all the way!

The Leonardo express to Termini is almost certainly the quickestand easiest option at about 30 minutes costing €14
If you wished to save a little money, then you could get the train to Tiburtina (55 minutes) for €8, and catch the train to Naples. There are some direct trains, but most also need a change at Termini.
or catch the €6 terravison bus to Termini (55 minutes) and then get the Naples train.

Thanks for yourr responses. Once we get to the Rome termini, there appears to be several choices of trains to naples. The Ic is less expensive than the Av, but apparently runs for a limited time. We expect to get to the Rome termini around 11amfrom the airport. Does anyone one know when the IC stops running to Naples?

The IC doesn't "stop running"--it is just scheduled at certain times of day. Check full schedules here:

You don't have to go to Termini to catch a train. You can also take the local FR1 train (8€) from the airport to Roma Tiburtina station and catch the Italo train at Tiburtina to Naples.

FYI- I don't see any IC trains departing Tiburtina.
I would not hang around the train station waiting for an IC train. AV trains will be more frequent.
A taxi from from Naples to Positano will be around 130€ (official taxi asking for the fixed rate before getting in - get receipt before taking off). Train from Naples to Sorrento and bus from Sorrento to Positano will be about 4€ each.

For more about the 2 trains that run into Rome from FCO, see:
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/inde...003f16f90aRCRD
It's worth noting that, as well as Italo Treno, Trenitalia also run a few of their fast Freccia services from Roma Tiburtina to Naples - currently at 09:52, 11:42, 17:42..
.....................
Both of those companies offer various discount schemes - which mostly have some rather severe restrictions that make them rather risky on one's arrival day...
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/inde...003f16f90aRCRD
There again, with prices for those on the fast Freccias between Rome and Naples starting at just €9, it's perhaps worth a gamble.... as against the likely €43 you'd pay if waiting until at the station?
(Once the very cheapest are sold, they go thru' further bands... €19, then €29 then €39 until the supply's exhausted and only full price "Base" tickets are left).
But little NEED to buy in advance; especially from Termini, it's a very frequent service.... with departures from there, Tiburtina and Ostiense looking roughly (but, very possibly, not exactly) like this at present:

.... and in many years of using that line I don't think we've ever not been able to just turn up, buy tickets and go!
