Train from Monterosso to Milan--Linate

Train from Monterosso to Milan--Linate
We are traveling from Cinque Terre to Milan in two weeks. Is it a good idea to buy tickets ahead of time--cost or availability?
Do you know which Milan station should be used to transport to Linate airport and would there be a bus to catch or a shuttle?

On this route many trains are either regional or IC trains where there is pretty much a flat fare I believe - any discounted tickets would be train-specific and have to be booked weeks in advance to get limited in number discounted tickets (which again may not even be available on most trains on that route) - I would just buy tickets once there - never a problem getting on these trains - so many trains.
For lots on Italian trains check out these fine IMO sites - www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. Check www.trenitalia.com for schedules and fares and to see if there are discounted fares but again the regular fare on those trains is not very much.

I was staying in Milan 2 summers ago & flew out of Linate. If I recall correctly, there are no trains to that airport. I did take one of the frequent buses that leave from Milan Central train station to that airport. It did not take long and there were only a few stops along the way for locals getting on & off. Of course you could hire a cab or a service, but I found the bus to be easy and easy on the wallet. If you do utilize the bus, they are located in the lot alongside the station. So, if you are standing in front of the station, turn right, walk until you reach the end of the station. Then turn left & walk alongside the station. There are numerous buses parked next to each other. I easily found the one marked Linate. There were lots of other passengers going to the airport as well. I hope this helps.

I think there are some direct trains from La Spezia to Milan but many more to Genoa and then change to frequent Genoa to Milan trains - so often the best way may be to change in Genoa is the direct train is not very convenient. there are two main train stations in Genoa - be sure you get to the right one unless Milan trains leave from both as I suspect they may.
