Train from Les Eyzies to Paris
We are spending 8 days in the Dordogne region, and then plan to train to Paris. We were going to drive to Bordeaux to drop the car off, and then take the fast train to Parisk but now see that we can train from Les Eyzies. This involves two switches, however. Has anyone made this trip....how much of a hassle is it having to change trains twice..Any other suggestions
Thanks!

There's an overnight train from Les Eyzies to Paris that leaves Les Eyzies around 11 pm and arrives Paris at about 6 am - it sits in Limoges for an hour or so during the middle of the night. There are other connections through Les Eyzies that involve going through Perigueux or Bordeaux or Libourne. It depends on what you want to do. No matter what you decide, you're talking about a 6- to 8-hour trip. That, as opposed to driving to Bordeaux and taking a 3-hour TGV to Paris. There are many, many options for getting from the Dordogne to Paris, it all depends on where you want to start from and how much time you have at your disposal. I've done them all.

St Cirq: What if we were to leave from Montignac...how long would the car ride be to either Perigueux or Brive? The train from Perigueux would have one stop; the train from Brive would be non-stop. Any suggestions? Or should we consider staying the night in St Emilion and leaving from Bordeaux on the high speed train? (We find that Les Eyzies doesn't have an Avis drop-off, so we won't be able to leave from there anyhow...unless you know of another car rental company. Thanks St Cirq!!)

You're right - there's no car rental outlet of any kind in Les Eyzies.
The drive from Montignac to Périgueux should take about 45 minutes. It's definitely the shortest option.
By the way, check with Avis about the location of the Avis office. When I was there in July, the office by the train station was boarded up and there was a notice that it was moving to the centre ville. That will mean you'll need to take a (short) taxi ride to the train station after dropping off the car unless Avis provides shuttle service.

Montignac is a much better choice for departure. Montignac to Brive is 36 km/35 mins, to Perigeux 48 km/45 min. I should think Brive would be preferable to drop off car in that it is a smaller town. Brive has an office at the SNCF Gare (station) SW part of city, closed between 12 and 2, Sat. afternoons and Sundays.
