Train from Amsterdam to Berlin return

I want to travel by train with my daughter between Amsterdam and Berlin.
Has anyone done this before and if so - Can you please give me some booking ideas
and any other information you have learnt from your experience? Is there a good site for making the bookings and should we try to get a non stop train? Is the train comfortable or should we look into first class travel? Any information at all would be much appreciated.

We are also trying to figure out where to stay. Do you have a favourite hotel?
I would love to hear from you.

Annie

there is no direct train, at least one change, takes over 6 hours, 39 euros second class if bought in advance.
the hotel depends on your budget, I have no particular favourites.

We were living in Amsterdam last year, and last spring about this time we took the train from Amsterdam to Berlin and return.

There actually are direct trains (no changes) that leave from the Amsterdam Zuid station.

The Deutsche Bahn (German railway) site that wobbers linked to shows a direct (no changes) train leaving Amsterdam Zuid at 6:58 AM and arriving in Berlin at 1:20 PM. As I recall, that's the one we took. It was a convenient and comfortable trip.

Second class was perfectly fine, no need for first class in my opinion.

I don't remember what hotel we stayed in - we were meeting relatives who were there for a conference and they made the reservations.

Hope you have a great trip.

There are now (as of Dec 2009) direct trains Amsterdam (Zuid) to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main station) every 2 hours throughout the day.

Fares start at just 29 euros each way if you pre-book direct with DB (German Railways) at www.bahn.de and print out your own ticket.

Easy!

Oh, and both 1st & 2nd class are very plush and comfortable, no need to go 1st class unless you're treating yourself.

Journey time around 5-6 hours, take a bottle of wine with you (it's allowed, as you're treated like a grown up on trains), sit back with a good book and chill out for a few hours.

It's a low-stress way to go compared to high-stress airports and flights.
