Train from Aix en Provence to Barcelona

Hello all -
I am trying to book transportation from Aix to Barcelona. I thought I could take the TGV train, but they do not seem to run between the two cities. Another option looks to be the TGV to Marseille and then fly to Barcelona, but that seems like a lot of work. Is there a train option out there that I have not come across? Is there a different recommended transportation method?

Thanks!

I too am interested in what people have to say about this. I am looking to travel by rail from Avignon or Montpellier or Perpignan to Barcelona, all of which would (I imagine) be on the same line as Aix to Barcelona.

There is no direct train between Aix and Barcelona. The easiezt way is to take a train at Marseille Saint Charles station and change in Montpellier, then in Figueres-Vilafant when you have crossed the border. You can also take the Talgo train from Montpellier, it is direct to Barcelona. There are two Talgos a day, one leaves at around 7.30 am, the other at around 5 pm.
Twoflowers : The train from Montpellier stops in Perpignan. So does the Talgo.
See www.tgv-europe.com for timetable, enter UK as your country or residence.

JD1020 - pop back in and let us know how much the tickets are, would you? I'm working on an Aix-Paris-Barcelona (not necessarily in that order at all) trip as well, and the Aix part is giving me a bit of grief. Their will be four of us and it might be cheaper to rent a car.

pdx : ticket prices vary according to date (the earlier you book, the cheaper you pay) and age of passengers (half price for children under 12, senior discount in some cases, etc.). It is impossible to tell you how much they are when we don't know when you travel.
If you rent a car in one country and drop it in another, expect a hefty drop off fee.

Thanks, Pv, I know that and I don't even have actual dates, though it will be high season during school break next summer. I just wanted to get an idea if it's $75 or $175. I'll go fool around on the train websites to get an estimate.

I ended up booking a flight. The trains were LONG and changing that many times was a bit too much for me. So, we're hopping on the train to Marseille and flying from there to Barcelona for $177 each. It is under an hour flight, so it made the most sense for our time. Hope that helps!
