Difficult to answer this without more details or without knowing which site you're trying to book tickets on.

The Eurostar website (http://www.eurostar.com) has a couple of options with Standard tickets. Standard tickets come in non-flexible - meaning you can't make changes, or semi-flexible. Semi-flexible tickets are dearer than non-flexible.

In addition, there is a choice between Standard and Standard Premier class, again with a significant difference in price.

I don't know where you're booking from. I live in the USA and the first question they ask when I go to their web site to book is where do I live. Now in the past (a couple of years ago), if I answered USA they would put a cookie in my computer and re-direct me to the Rail Europe site with all its asinine surcharges and what have you. I then had to find the cookie, get it out of my computer (as from then on, every time I enteredeurostar.com, my cmputer was re-routed to Rail Europe and answer I was in the UK...I athen had little trouble booking everything and all the available fares for all trains were listed. The answer, always, is to take the cheapest fare possible. Usually the cheaper the fare, the more restrictions regarding refunds and/or changes. But if you're taking standard class, you don't need first class (which is called premiere class I think). The trip takes only 2 hours 15 minutes..sometimes the standard class cars arrive at the destination first and sometimes they arrive second as the first class cars are in the middle but of course you have to wait for the train to stop anyway.

The other nice thing on eurostar web site now is they have stopped this business of charging an arm and a leg for a single and giving cheap return tickets which is what the airlines do namely try buyuing a one way ticket between NYC and LA on a regular airline ticket and compare with a round trip. There were all sorts of games people used to play namely if you needed a one way ticket, it was cheaper to buy a return and eat the return ticket. Well this led to lots of empty seats as they had no real way to enforce their tariffs and get back at passengers who threw away the return so in recent years they don't do that anymore. I don't know what Rail Europe does (and they charge me a ticket delivery charge; on eurostar uk I print the ticket myself!)

1. Xyz123 tried to use www.TGV-Europe.com, not Eurostar.com which doesn't divert to Rail Europe.

2. You should be booking Eurostar Paris to London direct with Eurostar at www.Eurostar.com

3. A4 and A6 aren't things I see when using Eurostar.com. There no such option!

man...in...seat....just for the record, I used eurostar.com and was diverted to Rail Europe. I haven't had this problem for a few years so I don'at know if that is still the case. Still, it is my advice when booking eurostar, as you say, go to eurostar.com and when asked what country you are booking from, say the UK to prevent any diversions.

But IMO you should always also check Eurostar fares at RailEurope.com as they can also at times have low prices - usually higher but not always and it is also an e-ticket so no mailing fee.

To check RailEurope Eurostar prices click on the link at Man in Seat 61's commercial site, www.seat61.com to RailEurope and if the fare is good buy thru that as then Man in Seat 61 will get a cut from RailEurope - deservedly so IMO.

So always check IMO RailEurope.com as well as www.eurostar.com - you never know they may be cheaper at times as I at times have indeed seen.
