If I take the train into Naples, I would prefer to avoid taking another train into Sorrento. I have read that there is NO direct train from Florence or Siena or Orvieto to Sorrento? Is this accurate?
If I do take a train into Naples, what station do I need to ride into to take the closest Ferry to Sorrento. Can I take a hydrofoil from Naples to Sorrento?
Is there a special website I can take a look at for booking tickets for ferries or hydrofoils. Are reservations required or is it a hop on hop off? How much is the ferry or hydrofoil ride from Naples to Sorrento?

Sorrento is on the Circumvesuviana train line so you do have to change in Naples. It would be quicker to take this train as it leaves from the same station as the trains from the north and runs frequently as it's a commuter line. The train station is near the main square in Sorrento.
Why do you not want to take a train to Sorrento?
For ferries you need to go to the ferry dock, not a station. In Sorrento you can either walk into town or take the small bus from the port. If you have luggage the bus is best.
I googled some information for you.

The Circumvesuviana is a local railway, with a narrower-gauge track than fits the Trenitalia trains - so the two have stayed separate for all these years!
Whilst not particularly lovely, we've ridden it many times without incident - and I've posted this to help others do so...

As any decent guidebook will tell you, for hydrofoils, transfer by bus, tram or taxi to the Beverello quay in Naples harbour - from where almost all the crossings are operated by the Alilauro line, details here:

Tickets are about €12 now - plus a €2 supplement for each suitcase or the like; shouldn't be necessary to prebook - and many people have reported difficulties when attempting to do so on that route!
At the far end, with luggage, to get up to the town from the port...

... you'd probably need either a taxi, or perhaps this bus service...

Quite a faff, although a very nice way to cross the Bay...
