Train Access To Amalfi Coast
Hi All
Im trying to set up 10 days or so somewhere on the Amalfi Coast. Im a little confused about train access to towns. Does Eurail go there and if not who does - if any?
Thanks for you time an effort.

Eurail is a pass, not a train system. The trains in most of Italy are Trenitalia, but there is also Italo (not to be confused with a reseller called Italia) and quite a few private local lines such as the Circumvesviana which operates between Naples and Sorrento. There are no trains along the Amalfi coast.

Italo mostly departs from Rome's Tiburtina station.

What city are you traveling from? If Rome, you would take Trenitalia from Rome Termini station to either Naples or Salerno (depending on your final destination along the coast). From Naples, you would switch to the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento and then catch a bus the rest of the way. From Salerno, you would catch a bus.
There are some ferry connections (to some towns on the coast) from Naples and Salerno, but they don't run often so connection times might not be practical.

Actually, in summer the ferries from Salerno up the Amalfi coast to Positano run frequently, usually every hour. We are big fans of Salerno. It's so easy to take a fast train from Rome or Naples down to Salerno, maybe visit the city for a night or two, or immediately hop the ferry for a beautiful ride up the coast.
Here's a link to one of many info sites on the web about Salerno - Amalfi coast schedules:

If you google around I think you'll find Salerno - A. coast - Capri - Naples ferry connections, sometimes with a transfer (e.g., there are frequent ferry crossings Naples - Sorrento).
And if you are prone to motion sickness, the ferries might be a good alternative to the bus along the coast because of the many tight curves.

Sorry - no trains.
Either ferry or bus can be problematic if you are seriously subject to motion sickness - then you need to rely on taxis. Car rental is not a good idea unless you are a confident driver (the coast road is cut into the side of a cliff and very narrow) and can find lodging with parking (very few places have parking).
We stayed in Sorrento - around the corner on the Bay of Naples - which is very handy for visiting anyplace due to lots of ferries, local train to Naples, buses and - for us - a rental car. We used the latter only since we were in the middle of road trip, our hotel had free parking and we are both very confident drivers, able to parallel park in spaces barely larger than the car. Also we were there in May when traffic is much less horrific.
Be aware that in season the buses along the coast road are usually standing room only and run at about 10 mph due to the massive traffic.

Thanks Guys as always.
Why I said Eurail I don't know. Never mind that. You have been very helpful as usual. God I love this site.
Our trip will be for 10 to 12 people and will be in May of 2016. We (I) will be asking questions about Villas and any other suggestions from you.
It looks like it will be a train from Naples to Salerno at this point. From there who knows.
Thanks Again for your help

PS: If you know of a really good deal on a place to stay (Villa etc) don't hold back.

Do you mean 2017? Lodgings are already very tight on the AC - since many people reserve far in advance. If you mean this year and need a villa for so many people there may be practically nothing left.
