Town in southwest Ireland to serve as a home base

Jump to last reply

My extended family and I (6 adults altogether) will be traveling to Ireland next July. This will be my third trip but first time to the southwest area of the country (previous trips were to Dublin, N. Ireland and Co. Donegal).

We are looking for a town that can serve as our home base for seven nights where we'd rent a vacation home. At the top of our list is Killarney. Any other towns we should look into that would provide relatively easy access to the Ring of Kerry, Dingle peninsula, Cliffs of Moher etc? We'd like someplace charming with a range of restaurants and grocery stores.

We are also entertaining the idea of a second town that we'd stay in for two nights (the first town we'd then stay five nights in). A friend suggested Galway which we are considering.
