Tower of London- how long do you spend there?

I am wondering how long do you spend at the Tower of London? And I heard that you have to go there in the morning, otherwise the queues are quite bad, is it true? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We were there on a FREEZING day in March so the queu wasn't that bad-maybe 10 minutes but I've heard stories. Nonetheless it was still quite crowded-we spent about 3 hours there I think but, if you are a history buff like myself-I could have spent at least 2 more hours.

If you really want to take it all in, about 4 hours is necessary. Be there when they first open in the morning. Go directly to where the crown jewels are located and see them first. Then return to the area near the entrance where the Warders tours begin. Take the tour. The rest of the time, just wander around.

I'd say that 4 hours is about an hour or 2 too much, especially if you get there first thing in the morning when it opens.

I agree with Ani & Tony. You could spend the afternoon there easily. Be sure to take a guided tour and take time to relax & enjoy the surroundings!

I went there in November. We went there first thing and there was no line. When we left around noon, there was a long line.

I agree. Go straight for the crown jewels. Make sure you see everything the first round, it's not like a museum where you can just wander about. They planned a specific route...kinda like Disney.

Never mind the crown jewels, look for the Baker Rifle! (Especially if you're a fan of history, firearms and/or Bernard Cornwell novels

Ada,

To avoid ticket lines, prepurchase your tix (they are available at many larger Tube stations in London). The advice to arrive just before opening and head right for the Crown Jewel Exhibit is on target. And the range of times folks mentioned really depends on your interest in history...so anywhere from 2 to 4 hours is probably a good guess.

Also, have you heard about the Ceremony of the Keys? Search this board for info, or email me for the particulars.

Enjoy the Tower

Dave White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com
[email protected]
