Myth #3 is a popular one here
.
<<Parisians still pay for groceries, pharmacy and restaurant tabs with personal checks>>
They do? Well, sure a few in the older generations, but as a general rule? Not in my experience.
"The main staples of life in Paris are plentiful and cheap: baguettes, wine, cheese, fruit, and patisserie desserts."
Staples of life?
Hmm, not sure how Paris could get a bad reputation for food. I am by no means a foodie but we had very tasty, generous meals in and out of Paris. Also, the bread and pastries are divine!
The notion that all hotel rooms in Paris are small is most definitely incorrect.
Actually, even though there are numerous inaccuracies in that list, it is considerably more accurate than the vast majority of such things that I read.
As for paying with checks, I see someone doing it in a shop or supermarket less than once a week -- and usually the only reason for this is if a couple only has one bank card and the person who doesn't have it has to pay for something that costs more than the cash they have on hand.
Agree that too many go to Paris and then want it to be like home and the food to be like home. I hadn't meant to order sweetbreads, but I did and they were excellent...you gotta try different foods!
I have no idea why anyone would think Paris is unsafe...anywhere could be unsafe, especially when you aren't paying attention.
