To plan a 14 day trip to Europe from India

- First time travel to Europe by two families consisting eight persons.
- Plan to cover three countries including Italy and France.
- Have either Austria or Spain as the 3rd country (please advise if there are any small countries nearby which can be substituted).
- Would like to visit Vatican too for one day.

- I know the trip duration is too short, however would appreciate if anyone can advise on an itinerary (incl whether to opt for flight/rail), list of important places to see, weather conditions, economical flights etc.

- Month of Departure : Mid June or Jul from Chennai, India.

Uvs - I was a first time traveller to Europe last year. We only went to Italy. I'm sorry I must have missed the duration . How long do you have? We had 10 nights and saw Venice, Florence, Rome as well as driving through some smaller towns in Tuscany using a combination of rail, bus and car.It was busy and there were only two of us to organize, pack and unpack. Will you be flying, using rail, or driving.? This might make a difference in where you decide to go.

Oops. See it .14 days. That seems tight for 3 countries. Are there specific things you want to do or see aside from the Vatican ?

Visiting 3 entire countries in only 14 days means spending about a third of your vacation in train stations and/or airports.

You're going to have to do your own homework with regard to an itinerary. No one here can work with the concept of "three countries." It's FAR too vague. I trust you have guidebooks and maps - it's time to start using them.

You can do the following to maximize your 2 weeks in Europe.
Fly to Paris for 3 days, take a train to Nice, spend 3 days, from there you can take a day trip to Monaco, EZE and Villefranche-sur-Mer - all in one day.
Take a train from Nice to Milan, 2 days - Lake Como day trip, next destination to Venice 2 days, next train to Florence 2 days and final stop to Rome 2 days. fly back home.+
train tickets are cheap in Italy, you get further discount if with kids. www.trenitalia.com
From Paris to Nice, book ASAP, last minute purchase can hurt your wallet.
enjoy.

uvs - sparky's idea is a reasonable one, but don't underestimate the difficulties of organising 8 people - the time required to get them moving in the morning will be FAR longer than for 2 or even 4. The same with deciding what to do and where to eat.

Don't know why, but it is just how it is.

Agree that 3 countries in so few days with so many people is not an option - you would spend the bulk of your time just geting from one place to another.

For us to help with specifics YOU have to do some research in guidebooks and decide what YOUR most important sites are. Also, it would help to let us know the people are/ages and gender. If it is all adults that might be a totally different trip than if teens or small children are part of the group.

Thank you all for your quick and valuable feedback. Guess I will restrict the trip to two countries. Would come back again once finalized.

Wannakam.
Indian pace is usually faster than what we do.
There used to be a direct flight Chennai Bruxelles (I took it several times - check it).
You would then land in Bruxelles visit grand place and some more sleep and take train (Thalys) to paris.
3 days min in paris.
Train to nice. 3 days there - one day trip to Monaco.
From nice I would take a plane to Rome.
3 days to Rome. INC Vatican.
Then ?
For flight try to limit luggage and check low costs companies such as easyJet.
Have fun.
Namaste.
