Hi. Heading for Luzern for 5 nights, and Interlaken for 4 nights. Do we really need a car? From the sound of the areas we will either be taking a boat, cable car, tram. Do you think a car is really necessary? Thanks.
Also... anyone been in this area in mid/late October?

Absolutely no need for a car.
Luzern should be pretty nice in October, perhaps a bit of rain. On average ... individual mileage may vary!
Interlaken ditto, but in the mountains you'll have to see what each day (or hour) brings. The mountains are quite variable between seasons. Some beautiful days, some terrible ones. Rembember that temps drop as your altitude rises, and the mountains will be quite a bit cooler than Interlaken. Above 10,000 feet (3.300 m) you should expect freezing or near-freezing temps even mid-day. How you feel will depend on the mix of sun, clouds and wind.
