Tkts to Waverly Stn, Edinburgh, UK , need to get off at Edinburgh Park...

We bought four tickets from London King Cross to Waverly station, Edinburgh, Scotland. But our hotel is located at Edinburgh Park Station. What should we do ? We don't have any idea of these train routes..

Your ticket will not take you to Edinburgh Park - which is nine minutes from Waverly Station - so you can either buy a supplemental ticket in London for use after your ticket to Edinburgh or simply buy one at Edinburgh Waverly station - from machines or the ticket window.

From Edinburgh Waverly the train will first call at Haymarket station then Edinburgh Park station. You have to change trains at Edinburgh when coming from London on most services. See www.bahn.de/en for exact schedules.

Or just take a taxi from Waverly Station.

Edinburgh Parl is a suburban station, not on the London-Edinburgh direct line.

Strictly speaking, if you've bought the ticket already, you need to buy further tickets at Edinburgh (about £2 each)Trains are every few minutes, most going to Milgavie (pronounced Mulgai) or Dunblane.

But if your hotel is a few hundred yards away from the station, it might actually be easier, and scarcely any pricier, to get a taxi from Waverley.

The others have explained the train situation. If you are staying at the Premier Inn you will be a short walk from the platform.

But -- that really isn't a great location to base for exploring Edinburgh. You will be nearly at the airport - not at all near central Edinburgh

Don't forget Edinburgh park is now also linked directly with the city centre (and the airport) on the new tram system:-

The tram makes the trip easy but it will take about 30 minutes to get to the center of Edinburgh. AFAIK the area is mainly office parks/businesses and such.

From Leith it will be a bit quicker - about 15-20 mins on the buses - depending on the specific bus you catch. One thing about the Leith Premier Inn - its walking distance to the Royal Yacht and lots of places to eat.

Actually more like 23 minutes on the tram (it's faster than other road traffic), so really not much in it as far as journey times are concerned. If it were me, I'd probably go for the Leith option as well - I have fond memories of some of some great evenings out in this area.

Of course that depends on where one gets off. I used Waverly Bridge to check the schedule on-line. Edinburgh Park to Waverly Bridge takes 29 minutes.

(I also used Waverly Bridge for the bus times)

But you can't get off the tram at Waverley Bridge... The nearest stop is Princes St, which is what I based my figures on using the journey planner on the Edinburghtrams website. Let's not split hairs though - I agree with you that Leith is the better location given the choice of two.

Oh - I see now, the 29 mins included the 4 minute walk to Waverly Bridge (I haven't been in the city since the tram opened - just used the journey planner. I'm looking forward to using it next time I'm there)

But myself, I can't imagine staying at Edinburgh Park - isn't that mostly a business park?

There is also a Premier Inn on Princes Street which puts you closer to Edinburgh Centre than either Leith or Edinburgh Park. It will be your best option if they have rooms available

I would suppose the out of town Premier Inn may have cheaper rooms available - like in London - those in tourist center are usually more expensive than ones in the outer areas.

That said to me it would be worth it to be right in Edinburgh at night - the town hops or at least its pubs do and walking around the Golden Mile or whatever they call it - and also be able to walk to any major site and be able to go back to your hotel room easily for R&R during the day.

The OP is visiting in August. My guess is that the other Premier Inns were booked up.

The "Golden Mile"??? I think you're confusing Edinburgh with your favourite English town, Blackpool. Edinburgh has the Royal Mile.

I once overheard some English tourists in Edinburgh talking about their plans for the day, and how they planned to "... walk down the Golden Mile to that Hollywood House..."

Thank you all for these wonderful suggestions, I have learned a lot. Premier Inn at Edinburgh ctr is full - no rooms available. So, I booked at Premier Inn in other areas, cheaper. But now I'm Thinking to keep Leith booking.
Thanks.

I think you'll MUCH prefer the Leith location. I'd also check to see if any of the several Travelodges in central Edinburgh have availability. Premier Inns are nicer but there are a few Travelodges in the center of town.
