Tips traveling Prague to Hallstatt to Lake Bled to Rovinj and Motovun

We're are planning a trip this fall to Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Hallstatt, Lake Bled, Rovinj, Motovun and Pula. Would we be better off taking trains, buses, or renting a car for 4 adults? Would you recommend flying out of Pula, Trieste or Ljubljana? Any ideas are appreciated.

You might want to consult one of the guidebooks that provides decent coverage of transportation options, perhaps the Rough Guide.

We did a similar trip last year, but ended in Slovenia. We rented a car, and were very happy with our decision. You can click on my name for a TR.

As for flying out...it depends on your itinerary, your airline, etc. We flew out of Ljubljana, if that matters. How long is your trip?

We spent 2 weeks in Croatia a few years ago (with a car) and visited both Motovun and Pula as day trips from Rovinj. Porec is another great place to add as a day trip, if you have time in that area.

I am not familiar with trains/buses in any of the mentioned countries, but with 4 adults, a car might be more cost effective. You need to do the math.

Last time, we rented a car from Prague to visit Cesky Krumlov and other places but we returned it back in Pargue Airport. Hertz had some discounts so definitely check it out. Mind that if you are planning to drop the car in other countries then there will be a hefty charges.

Cesky Krumlov is a pretty little town. I guess one should spent at least 2 days there. Rafting was quite fun.

Hallstatt is another beauty. Quite small but very scenic. Due to our late plans we couldn't get a place to stay there. A car is preferred to get to HallStatt.
