Hi fellow travelers,
I am new to this site and thank you in advance for any help you may provide!
I am a female traveling solo to Europe for a few months between mid April to ~the third week in June. I’ve decided on the following locations. I would love any tips. Specifically recommended Hostels and input on Croatia. I’m planning to rent a vacation home in Croatia, specifically in the Dalmatia region for the last ~4 weeks. I’m thinking in Dubrovnik but please provide any feedback (Split and Zadar would be other options). See specific questions and my current ideas below:
Spain- Barcelona then down towards Gibraltor, Andulicia, Seville
Portugal- I don’t know anyone that has visited here and have heard mixed repsonses but it looks amazing..here was thinking of Lisbon, Guimaraes, Douro Valley, Porto, Figueira da Foz (beach area)
Q: What is the cheapest/best way to get from here to Sicily region of Italy? Train or flight? If train any recommended spots to stop along the way (I’ve already been to south of France)
Italy- Palermo/Sicily region (I've been to Italy before Rome/Venice/Florence and Almalfi Coast so thought this is an area I'd like to see)
Q: Was thinking of doing a couple days in Malta-suggestions?
Q:-TIPS ON TAKING A FERRY FROM ITALY TO CROATIA. This looks easiest and most cost efficient
Croatia- I was looking into getting a vacation rental on the Dalmatia region either in Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik..for a few weeks as my last point. This area I'm pretty set on including. I’m thinking Dubrovnik is my choice but again open to suggestions. Also, I’d like to take a few day trips while in this country, again suggestions?

I've been to many of the places you mention as a solo woman traveller (including 3 or 4 weeks in Croatia) and have enjoyed them all without difficulty.
> I was looking into getting a vacation rental on the Dalmatia region either in Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik
It really depends on your interests, but I think Split might be your best bet because it might give you the most options for convenient day trips -- you could go more or less north to Sibenik or Zadar or ..., or northeast to Plitvice Lakes, or east to Mostar, or south to Dubrovnik, or west to Hvar or Vis .... Also, it is a larger city than either Zadar or Dubrovnik, and so probably has more to do. I thoroughly enjoyed Split - I found it vibrant and energetic. Others on this board have not enjoyed it quite as much. Also, June is high-season in Croatia, so Dubrovnik in particular would be massed with tourists (including day-trippers from various cruises) during the time you would likely be there. Zadar and Split don't get quite so many tourists and are also larger, and so better able to absorb those that do come.
But are you committed to a single base in Croatia for a month? There's a great deal to see there, much of which you would not be able to easily reach on day trips from any one specific location.
BTW, you might ask Fodor's editors to add tags for all the countries about which you seek input (sounds like Portugal, Italy, and Croatia in addition to Spain) - many people only scan by country.
Thank you very much. I apologize for the late response. Yes, I tried to tag more countries and it appears that I can only choose one? Perhaps I'll try again. I actually ended up booking a place in Split! I plan on gong into Dubravonik for a few days first. Do you suggest taking a bus from there to Split? It sounded as if that was 'the' option. I'm excited to update that I now have a few friends and my sister meeting me at points so I think the adventure of being solo then meeting friends/family along the way will be perfect. Again, your comments are much appreciated!!!
I took the bus from Split to Dubrovnik. The views were stunning! Sit on the west side.
The other way to go would be by ferry, with stops at various islands, probably over the course of several days. To know what, exactly, that would entail (and how much time it would take), you'd need to check the ferry schedules for the time when you will be there. I suspect that one possible route would be Dubrovnik to Korcula Town to Hvar Town to Split. (And if you do decide to pursue this route, make sure you are looking at the right towns. For example, some ferries from Hvar to Split leave from the town of Stari Grad, which is across the island from Hvar Town.)
Sounds like you are making progress with your plans. Enjoy!

Where is here?
I will have a safe bet when I say flying will be the cheapest.
Sicily is an island, but if you want to call it a region are you including all the smaller islands within the government area in your visit?
