I will arrive in Munich via Lufthansa at 10:00 a.m. and will catch a flight (Air Dolomiti which is owned by Lufthansa) at 10:35 a.m. to Pisa. This strikes me as a very short time between arrival and departure, although I know people do it every day. Is there anything I need to know to make sure I make it? I am not a seasoned flyer. Thanks.

One big thing - when is the NEXT flight to Pisa on Air Dolomiti?
Seriously though, if it is a Lufthansa booking (did you book it all the way to Pisa on the same ticket?) all the way through, they will either hold the plane for you if your originating flight is just a little late, or they will find you alternate transport to Pisa. If you booked the two segments separately, you might want to have a chat with the Air Dolomiti reservations people about the possible outcomes.
Good luck on that and no people do not do THAT all the time.You'll be lucky to even be off the first flight by 10:35.

My flight from DFW-JFK-MXP in April was delayed over 12 hours. I am glad that I didn't buy rail tickets in advance. It has made me think twice about booking anything after my flight.
Terminal 2 at Munich is used only by LH and Star Alliance partners. Connection is super easy, and provided your incoming flight arrives on time, 35 min is sufficient. If you are coming from outside Schengen, you will have to go through passport check - very quick - and if you are coming from outside Europe, you will go through security before getting to your gate, but again they are very efficient and delay is minimum. Your luggage will have been checked through. Should you miss your connection despite LH's best efforts, they will rebook you on next available flight without any trouble and give you a meal voucher should you have to wait over mealtime.

I have made several 30min connections through Munich and missed several in the 60-90min range. The biggest variable is your incoming flight.
One time I was even whisked through a special immigration line and down some internal stairway escorted by LH agent.
There are only 2 flights per day from MUC to Pisa. The next one is at 2115 hrs - which would be quite a wait.
They will probably hold your flight to Pisa for a while, but not if your plane from the US is 1 hour late. If you fly LH domestic or intra-European one famous announcement you'll hear quite often is: "We are ready for departure, but we still have to wait for few pax from delayed incoming flight"
When you fear for a late arrival once you get close to Munich, ask the cabin crew of your flight from the US if you will receive any special attention upon arrival. The normal procedure with Lufthansa is that there will be a rep to meet you once you got off your plane from the US, with a sign displaying your connecting flight. That person will get you through passport control and security to your connecting flight.
If your flight from the US is not delayed, and you have to find your way to the connecting flight's departure gate yourself, you may want to keep in mind that many to most flights to Italy depart from Level 03 at MUC. That means the gates can be one level below the regular Schengen gates on Level 04, while your flight from the US will arrive at Level 05. Which is all the same building/terminal. I hope that this does not add too much to the confusion.

I am actually travelling to Munich from Frankfurt. I wonder if that will simplify things (assuming that my flight to Frankfurt is not delayed....)
It does simplify things. In Munich, you simply walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate for Pisa. No security, no passport control.
