Three Weeks in Turkey - Itinerary

Jump to last reply

Greetings Fellow Fodors Travelers:

We are planning three weeks in Turkey this April and I just wanted to run this itinerary by people familiar with the country. Last year, we spent three weeks in Spain and flew into Barcelona and rented an apartment through VRBO, and so we decided to do that in Istanbul.

April 3-10 - Istanbul: We found a wonderful apartment in Kuzguncuk (http://www.vrbo.com/323154) that is a ten minute walk to the ferry. We plan to take the ferry into the touristy parts of the city.

April 10 -14: Fly to Cappadocia. We are going to stay in Goreme and stay at the Taskonak Hotel (http://www.taskonak.net/). We are thinking of hiring a guide in the area to take us out of Goreme and see more of the sights.

April 14-18 - Fly to Izmir. We have reservations at the Hotel Nyla (http://www.nilya.com/ephesus_nilyahotel/index.html) in Selcuk. Again, we may hire a guide depending on how easy it is to get around on our own. Obviously we want to spend a day at Ephesus, as well as other archealogical ruins, at least one day exploring the beach area.

April 18-21 - Fly back to Istanbul and take the ferry to Büyükada and stay at the Naya (http://www.nayaistanbul.com/). We are thinking that after almost three weeks, a little R&R on this quaint island would be very relaxing.

April 21-22 - Take the ferry back to Istanbul and stay in the middle of things in the Sultanahmet at the Osman Han Hotel (http://www.osmanhanhotel.com/).

April 23 - Depart

We are not renting a car because it is less stressful to hire guides along the way - not to mention learning more about the country in the process.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Daniel
