Well i'm sure there are some clubs that are open late but that may cost more than a hostel

Here's what some UK soccer louts did a few years back when i was there.

Groups of hooligan beer guzzling types were camped out in Venice awaiting a train to Llubjiana the next day for some big match.

At night we saw them sitting in outdoor chairs in front of a cafe right near the train station, drinking beer of course and

the next morning when we went to the station they were still at the same table, still drinking beer, though some had practically nodded off into their beer. The cafe owner i guess didn't care - or maybe was afraid to care.

In olden days i slept out in the warm Venetian nights near the relatively remote eastern tip of the island and no one bothered me - did that for some days - i was in my 20s and it was for the same reason you did - to save funds on a starvation budget trip. I had stored my luggage in the train station luggage room.

There is probably a hidden, secret nightlife (casinos, clubs, etc?), but personally we found Venice to be the earliest closers of any Italian city we were in..so I will be watching this thread with interest.

I wouldn't exactly go to Venice for its nightlife. However there is everything else about the city!!

Walk the back alleys of Venice at night, preferably with a flashlight.

There is a ghost tour but is done in the evening. You should though be able to get a view ideas from the tour's description:

The "new" casino out by the airport is open into the wee hours, would guess at least until 4:00 most nights. The old casino is also open into the early hours but don't think as late as the new one. They used to have a shuttle to the airport from Tessera and maybe still do.

Don't think there are any other clubs or bars that would be open much past midnight.
