Take the post bus down the Bregaglia Valley to Soglio. Explore the charming village and breathtaking views. Then hike through the chestnut wood to Castasegna on the Italian border.

Take the post bus not quite so far to Sils Maria. Have a crepe in the square in the center of town. Again, explore the town (lovely garden at the Nietszche house, if I remember correctly) and hike through beautiful scenery on the well-marked trail.

Hi wayward ~ I got some great advice for our second trip to that area this August.

Whatever you do don't miss Soglio and the Sentiero Panoramico trail!

I had a nice lunch at Cafe Hauser in St. Moritz. And they make their own chocolates which were very good.

I thoroughly enjoyed Samedan, a little village about 6 minutes by train from Pontresina and about 12-15 minutes from Sankt Moritz. A lot of sgraffito-decorated houses, old churches, nice pubs. We walked up to the highest church in town (now a burial church and not open to the public), and explored their cemetary. You can see Europe's highest altitude landing strip from the church, and several more gentle hiking paths branched upward from the ancient Celtic terracing.

Oh, and surely, you are going to hike the FANTASTIC stretch from Muotta's Muragl(take cable up) to Alp Languard (chairlift down) to Pontresina. Extolled in all the "Best of Engadine Hikes"!
We missed the opening of this Bergbahn (and thus, the hike) by just 4 days this summer!
