Hello! I'm visiting Montpellier for a few days in May and need some suggestions of things to do! (Where to shop, cheaper places to eat, activities, etc..)
Thank you!!

If you are only there a few days, the typical main attractions listed in a guidebook or on their tourism website should suffice, choose what appeals to you. Depending how many days, you could do a day trip elsewhere by train very easily, also (to Nimes or Narbonne).

I just chose restaurants by looking at them in the main area where I was staying, as the ambiance and location were most important to me, such as one of the ones around place de la Comedie. They were not notably expensive. There is another area of town with a lot of restaurants, but you'll see them by walking around. For steak-frites, I liked this one, not far from there.

I don't know what kind of shopping you want to do, why not just go into shops that appeal to you when you are walking around town.

In about a half hour you can be in Aigues-Mortes ("Dead waters") - a medieval town with huge walls still standing, good for a stroll and some fine photos.

While there, drive down to the harbor town of Le Grau-du-Roi and have lunch overlooking the water.

At the end of the quai look for the statue of the fisherman's widow with kids, looking out onto the sea for the long-lost fisherman that didn't make it back.

Then drive back past La Grande-Motte and the beach of Carnon-Plage past the Montpellier airport. A nice half-day trip.

A little bit further East than Aigues-Mortes is the nature world of the Camargue, a protected area famous for wild white horses and millions of flamingoes.

Also while in Montpellier, try to attend one of the Courses Camarguaises, the south-of-France version of bull "fights". No blood, no killing, just good family fun, and the bull always wins! A rosetta is stuck between a bull's horns, and a dozen or so brave young lads try to snatch it from the bull's head while the bull chases them around - watch them leap over the enclosure, like in the pictures at
https://www.mas-du-pont.com/le-domai...-camarguaises/

This is the schedule for 2017: www.ffcc.info/le_calendrier_des_courses-9.html

A bus goes all the way, see timetables at http://www.herault-transport.fr/fich...e/106-sept.pdf - except that this was last year’s schedule, so check locally when you get there for any changes.

Other solutions:

08:02 TGV 6868 from Montpellier-Saint-Roch station to Nîmes (arr. 08:28), then 08:47 bus/autocar 34041 to Aigues-Mortes (arr. 09:58).

09:58 TGV 9896 from Montpellier-Saint-Roch station to Nîmes (arr. 10:24), then 10:32 local train 77553 to Aigues-Mortes (arr. 11:10).

See https://www.horairetrain.net/horaire...uesmortes.html

A bit of terminology: “Car” or "autocar" in French means ”coach” or autobus; a car as in automobile is a "voiture" or "une auto".
