Theme Parks near Munich

Will be spending 18 days in Europe with wife and 19 & 20 year old sons. We have 4 days in Munich and after touring museums and historical sights I thought the boys might enjoy a day of riding roller coasters at a theme park. I thought I had read that there is a park somewhere outside Munich that has the largest or fastest roller coaster in the world. Anyone have any knowledge of Theme Parks around the Munich area?

The whole area has a somewhat americanized touch. Relatively oversized malls out of town, geared to car traffic. Only few tourists in the towns, yet nice old downtown areas. If it weren't Germany, you might think of being somewhere in the southern US. Only drawback for living there is that for the better jobs, people commute to Munich every day. In winter during rush hour, 40 min may become 2 hours easily...
