I know that is not you, honey, in that last post b/c you are always so appreciative of all the planning & research I do for our trips. Plus, I also know you wouldn't have a clue as to the existance of this Forum and how it works - let alone responding to a question. ;-)

I'm glad about the binoculars I take.
I'm miffed about the small flashlight I twice took to Italy. It was supposed to help illuminate the paintings in dark churches. Most of the churches had
coin-operated lights, and my little flashlight, lightweight for travel,
barely lit a small circular area of each painting. Flashlight stays home from now on. There are other circumstances when it might come in handy (when I went to the Ceremony of the Keys, In London), but not in churches in Italy.
What I needed was a larger supply of Lire coins! Does any one know if all those light meters have been adapted to euros?
On reading this-I think that there must be at least a couple of marriages out there that must not have been made in heaven.I would hate to know that my spouse was wishing that I had been left at home on the trip we took together.Perhaps next time-instead of a trip-someone should try a marriage counselor/divorce attny.

I *once* took a travel iron; what a waste of space and weight.

I've never wished I'd brought something I didn't, except for more money.

The best thing to bring is a book, or money to buy one. Long train rides, delayed flights...all seem manageable if Hercule or Alex and Milo are hot on the trail.

Glad I took: Lead-lined bag for my film. It may not have helped at all, but it did give me piece of mind. I am always worried something will go wrong with cameras or film. This time I had two cameras too, so no worries mate.

Wish I had left: My tripod. I generally travel with it, but this was the first time somewhere as far as Europe. I was just too tired at night to use it and didn't want to lug it around during the day, and I kept thinking how much weight it added to the luggage and how much space it consumed. Will I take it again - probably. You never know, right?

Garbage bags/Plastic bags. I use them everywhere to wrap my toiletries in so they don't leak. Very important when your luggage gets bumped and shuffled on the trains through Europe. Earplugs for those charming and quaint hotels that are noisy from outside street traffic plus for the plane. I always take my flask with me. I usually fill it with a brandy or frangelico - great for my AM expresso.
I always bring a corkscrew because hotels sometimes don't have them (even luxury ones) and I always buy wine locally to chill during my cocktail hour. And I am never without my black dress jacket. I wear it everywhere. It dresses up any outfit I'm wearing and I need it for when I go into churches or mosques to cover my arms.
Oh and I bring a mini packet of Kleenex that I carry with me at all times. It comes in handy when you travel to areas where the toilet is a hole in the ground.

One more thing. I always travel with Handi-Wipes or Purell. They now make handi-wipes in individual packets. I buy a big box before every trip. Comes in handy when you need to clean your hands after eating churros, beignets or chocolate filled croissants!

Dawn, you are a great person to travel with! Frangelico in a flask and kleenex for that scarey hole in the floor
I have to agree with Ellen-I could have left a couple of pairs of shoes at home.
And last time in Paris,I was sorry I didn't bring our big heavy serious camera for those close -up black and white photos that you just can't get with the little advantix cameras.
Glad I took lots of ziploc sandwich bags--handy for saving that half-sandwich or the buttered tartine from breakfast that you are going to put some ham and cheese on later.

Probably sorry I didn't leave out that extra top (or bottom) that I stuck in at the last moment (didn't wear that skirt after all).
