Stayed at the Ritz in Barcelona--definitely a great value if you want a 5 star hotel! Pretty cheap compared to the 5 stars of Paris, Italy, etc, and has a great location right on the water. It IS ten minutes via cab from the city center, but it lets you explore the beaches of barcelona, which is great. The hotel food is incredible. The service is whatever, but you don't really need a lot of attention in a city like this with so much to do

It's cheap because of its location, hardly the best place to stay if you're interested in experiencing the city, getting out and just walking around.
